Introducing your child to music is a lot easier than you might think. Responding to sound and rhythm is one of the most natural instincts we have as human beings, so your child is already noticing, listening and experiencing the sounds and rhythms all around them. It's our job (the parent and the teacher) to guide them gently and help them explore music in a way that is fun and positive.
Some fun facts...
As children, we weren't really sure what to do with all the things we heard; but we did begin to recognize, distinguish and respond to certain sounds and rhythms as they caused us to experience different range of emotions. Once we associated the sound with a good happy feeling,
we wanted to do it over and over again...like banging on a bucket with a stick........it just doesn't get any better!
Feel free to expose your child to music and let them ask the questions. Drumming is a powerful way to introduce music to kids because it is more visual and physical as they are fascinated by. We all know how much energy kids have, so for them drumming becomes fun and motivational. It's an experience and journey they will never forget. It's important at the beginning to allow them to move at their own pace. There are methods that an experienced drum teacher can use to introduce your child to a routine of practice so they can build from what they learn and develop quickly.
